What is executive coaching and how does it work?
Executive coaching is a personalized, one-on-one development experience designed to enhance your leadership effectiveness. We work with you over 6-12 months through regular sessions focused on building the 9 Core Competencies of Better Leaders. Sessions can be conducted virtually or in-person based on your preference.
What makes Better Leadership's approach different?
Our unique approach helps leaders become fully integrated through the head, heart, and body of leadership. We're also guided by our 9 Core Competencies of Better Leaders and 9 G's Values and Guiding Principles system. We develop not only cognitive abilities (the head) but also emotional intelligence and values alignment (the heart), plus physical health and sustainability practices (the body). This comprehensive approach encourages leaders to embrace their humanity and role-model a well-rounded, healthy approach to work and leadership.
What's the difference between executive coaching, team development, and leadership training?
- Executive Coaching: One-on-one personalized development for individual leaders
 - Leadership Team Development: Collective development for entire leadership teams (6-12 members) through our LTEE process
 - Leadership Training: Cohort-based programs (Embark, Elevate, Excel) for structured group learning
 
Do I get individual coaching in the training programs?
Embark offers optional professional coaching packages. Elevate includes both group and individual coaching with ICF certified coaches. Excel includes 6 individual coaching sessions plus peer coaching.
How long do your programs typically take?
- Executive Coaching: 6-12 months depending on goals and needs
 - Leadership Team Development: 2-12 months based on team needs and engagement scope
 - Training Programs: Embark (6 weeks), Elevate (13 weeks), Excel (3 months)
 
Can services be delivered virtually?
Yes! Executive coaching can be conducted entirely virtually. Team development combines virtual and onsite sessions based on your needs. Training programs are delivered in cohort format with both virtual and in-person elements.
Which training program is right for me?
- Embark: New and aspiring leaders, high-performing individual contributors preparing for leadership roles
 - Elevate: Current leaders with direct reports, mid-level leaders aspiring to senior roles
 - Excel: Experienced senior leaders seeking to expand their organizational impact
 
How many people participate in each training program?
- Embark: Up to 20 participants per cohort
 - Elevate: 10-20 participants per cohort
 - Excel: Fewer than 10 participants per cohort for more intensive development
 
What time commitment is required for training programs?
All programs require 2-5 hours per week, including self-directed work, live sessions, and application activities. The specific structure varies by program level.

About Leadership Team Development
What is a Leadership Team Elevation Engagement (LTEE)?
LTEE is our comprehensive team development process that typically includes assessment, an intensive 1.5-3 day onsite retreat, and ongoing support to build trust, improve communication, and align your team's effectiveness.
How large should our leadership team be for this program?
Our team development works best with actual leadership teams of 6-12 members. This allows for meaningful interaction, trust and relationship building, and enhancement of group dynamics.
What happens during the onsite retreat?
The retreat focuses on building trust, deepening relationships, improving communication patterns, aligning ways of working, and establishing shared priorities. The exact agenda is customized based on your team's assessment results.

Our 9 G's Values and Guiding Principles are: Growth-Mindset, Governance of Self, Graceful Agility, Gratitude, Generous Spirit, Glow, Goodness, Grit, and Grace. Each combines a core value with specific guiding principles that guide both our approach and what we help leaders develop.

Do you provide leadership assessments?
Yes, we use various assessment tools based on client needs and program requirements. Our certified tools include Wiley's Everything DiSC Workplace, Wiley's Five Behaviors of a Team, Center for Creative Leadership's 360 feedback instruments, The Leadership Circle Profile, and Hogan Personality Inventories. We select the most appropriate assessments to enhance self-awareness and support your development goals.
